This year ACE again hosted more than 600 students and their teachers from local middle schools, high schools, and trade schools. The ACE team created 18 work center simulations manned by our experts – employees who demonstrated many of the processes which go toward the manufacture of Aerospace and Power Generation parts and assemblies. There were also exhibits about futuristic technologies – tools which are here, now.

Students from Mission College, Northwestern and San Jose State came in. We gave them a short company overview with a discussion on Silicon Valley manufacturing. Recently hired graduates employed by Asteelflash then gave them a tour of the facility. After this we had a number of our managers come in and had a lively Q&A session followed by light refreshments. Great dialogue with the students.

We hosted 30 engineering students from Ohlone College and gave them a presentation on our company, industry and importance of manufacturing. We then provide them with an overview of the printed circuit board manufacturing process, before departing for a tour of several key processes that leverage state-of-the-art equipment including drilling, soldermask deposition and electrical testing.

Our engineering & production managers gave interactive presentations and hosted a Q & A with the students and community members. In between a 1.5 hour facility tour and engineering games, the students snacked on popcorn & cotton candy. After the conclusion of the tour, students were released to speak with California Baptist University engineering students about their experience building an indy car.

Our event was two-fold: In the morning from 11am-2pm, there was a Resource Fair where East County manufacturing companies had the chance to network with Resource Providers and attend workshops that taught them how to better their business. A short introduction of M.R. Mold, who we are, what we do was followed by a shop tour. Beginning in Engineering the students learned the importance of math. Following, they went through the mold shop with explanations on each machine and how programming plays a big role in the shop. Lastly they were introduced to the Tech Center where the molding machines were making parts and R.D. Abbott explained the characteristics of rubber.

Brewery owner and founder Mike Ryan spoke about the process of starting their facility in Rancho Cordova and future workforce needs as they expand. Congressman Dr. Ami Bera, Sacramento County Supervisor Don Notolli, and Rancho Cordova Mayor Donald Terry spoke about the importance of manufacturing to our communities as well as the importance of developing a pipeline of skilled workers to our economic growth. Workshops for Warriors celebrated MFG Day with a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and unveiling of their new Stratasys Fortus 450mc 3D printer. A special presentation included remarks by Stratasys Leadership and Hernán Luis y Prado, Founder and CEO of Workshops for Warriors. Attendees then toured the school’s machining and welding labs learning more about the 16-week program created for Veterans.
